Outdoor Burn Ban in Effect

2/20/2026

Volusia County has implemented an outdoor burn ban in unincorporated areas and select cities, effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, due to unusually high drought conditions.

The ban applies to unincorporated areas, as well as Oak Hill, Lake Helen, and Pierson. All outdoor burning is prohibited unless authorized by the Florida Forest Service. This includes yard debris, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, and cooking fires. Contained gas or charcoal grills (not fire pits) are still okay to use during the ban.

  • Volusia County Fire Rescue urges residents to take extra precautions:
  • Do not discard cigarettes from vehicles
  • Avoid parking hot vehicles on dry grass
  • Keep a 30-foot defensible space around your home
  • Clear leaves and dead vegetation from yards, roofs, and gutters
  • Never leave cooking fires unattended

The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. Residents should monitor the County's social media accounts and website for updates and call 911 if they see smoke or fire. Violations of the burn ban can result in penalties.
