Nightly Aerial Mosquito Control Treatments to Begin Sunday Evening

10/25/2024

Volusia County, in partnership with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), will conduct fixed-wing, aerial mosquito treatments across the county to manage increased mosquito populations following Hurricane Milton. The treatments, anticipated to cover more than 330,000 acres, will begin after sunset on Sunday, October 27, 2024, and will continue nightly until completed. Operations are scheduled between sunset and sunrise when mosquitoes are most active, with the goal of completing all treatments, weather permitting, by the end of the month.

The materials used in these operations will be industry-standard products widely applied across the United States to control mosquito populations. All products are registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and FDACS and are applied by trained, state-licensed technicians. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, when used according to label instructions, larvicides and adulticides do not pose risks to people, pets, or the environment.

Residents can view an online map of planned treatment areas and learn more about Volusia County’s mosquito control efforts at www.volusia.org/mosquito.

Hurricane Debris Removal Guidelines

10/22/2024

We have heard complaints from some residents that debris is not being removed from their yards. Please be aware that Public Works will only pick up debris that is placed on the curb. We cannot send our crews onto private property to clean up storm debris. Please see the infographic below.

Public Works is continuing to work in conjunction with other debris removal contractors to clear vegetative debris from multiple streets in town. It will take time to complete this work. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through this process.

Any questions can be directed to our offices at (386) 749-2661.
